Bean and Bailey Family Night

by Errol Schroeder
“Bean and Bailey” – the name of the newest upscale, overpriced haberdashery on the Promenade? “Bean and Bailey”- the latest upscale, overpriced espresso served up by your local barista? All good answers…but not the answer we’re looking for.

“Bean and Bailey” is a Tennessee-based comedy duo, proving that clean comedy is indeed funny comedy. Bean and Bailey included Greeley and Journey Christian Church as a stop on their current tour, treating over 200 people to a night of music-driven, Smothers-Brothers-esque funny stuff including impersonations of the King of Rock-n-Roll and the King of Pop, a twisted look at folk music and Best Blues Performance Ever on the handmonica. (Guess you just had to be there to get that one.)

And if getting a belly full of laughter wasn’t enough, Chick-fil-A stopped in with FREE hot and spicy chicken sandwiches for everyone and coupons for more free sandwiches. Tell me, does a Saturday night get any better than this?

Everybody wonders where the good, clean (and family affordable) comedy has gone. We found it at Journey Church with Bean and Bailey. A good time was had by all, wish you were there!

Hero Headquarters 2010

by Terri Beaver

God blessed our Vacation Bible School with 272 children this year!

It was great to see the building come to life as Hero Headquarters. Children got to meet two super-heroes in training: Pizza Man and Water Woman. They also met our old friend Cooper, transformed into Super Cooper. And the star of the show was Maintenance Mac, who ended up being "sauced and cheesed" at our closing program on Sunday night.

They also got to meet five unnamed heroes from the Bible: the servant girl who spoke up so Naaman would be healed of leprosy, the shepherds who told everyone about the newborn Savior, the Centurion who went to Jesus so that his servant could be healed, the boy who shared his lunch so that Jesus could feed over 5,000 people, and Paul's nephew, who spoke up so that Paul could be protected as he traveled.

Thanks to our over 60 crew leaders, over 20 station leaders, and all the other volunteers who made it all happen. Thanks to everyone who donated supplies, and thanks to Janet Newth, our supply coordinator -- HUGE job!

Thanks to the fearless leader of it all, Darlene Schroeder. You're all heroes for God!

Celebrate Salvation

Last week was the final message in a series called The Party which was based on Arron Chambers book Eats with Sinners. The message he delivered was entitled, “Celebrate Salvation.” 52 people were baptized during three services on Sunday morning.

Matt Estrin and Family New at Journey

Journey's new Worship Minister, Matt Estrin, along with his wife Trista and little daughter Samantha are moving to Greeley.

The Pounding

To honor them and help to stock their pantry shelves in there new home, the folks at Journey held a "Pounding". What that means is we did not hit them with anything, but those that attended showered them with a "pound" of some kind of food or other staple. Many did gift certificates to local stores or restaurants.

New Family at Journey

Matt, Trista, and Samantha, we welcome you to Journey! Visit our website at http://www.enjoythejourney.com to learn more about our ministry and service times to catch Matt and the worship team at Journey in action!

Enjoy the Journey in Haiti

by Bill Moxan
I was able to visit Corrie as she was beginning her 9 months of teaching in Haiti. We had been missionaries in Haiti 12 years ago. So, I was able to show her some of our old favorite places using public transportation called "Tap-taps." We were enjoying this journey together!

Light Night 2009

14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 ESV

Our hope for this year is that we will take Light Night into all of Greeley and the
surrounding area! We want to partner with you and your family to make an
impact in our community.
Here is the plan. We will continue to collect candy until October 25th. The following Wednesday our students will divide the candy into small bags that will also include some information on Journey Christian and Jesus! You can pick up bags of candy at the welcome center Thursday and Friday October 29th & 30th (they will be available on a first come first serve basis).

Here are some ideas on how you can make an impact in your neighborhoods on Saturday night:
· Be intentional - meet your neighbors, introduce yourself whether you are at your house passing out candy or walking the neighborhood with your kids.
· Decorate your house with LIGHTS—Shine!
· Chili! - Make a big pot of chili and invite a few of your neighbors over for dinner before trick or treating.
· Make some Apple Cider or Hot Chocolate to share and create an opportunity to talk to parents. Make a small sign for your yard that says-"Hot Chocolate, Apple Cider served here!"
· Make your house the house of the neighborhood! We have a limited number of games and supplies that can be checked out just for this night to make your house extra special.
· Rent a popcorn maker or cotton candy machine for your house. (Find some friends to split the cost if you want).
· Use your garage, it may be cold out, create a stopping point with games, food, or drinks, play Christian music and invite people to hang around for a while and get warm.
· Reverse Trick or Treating—Find somewhere that doesn’t get a lot of visitors, like a nursing home. Go visit some folks and take a healthy treat to them!
· Partner with your Journey Group or Journey neighbors. Get together, pool your resources, have fun and fellowship.
· Want to keep it simple? Have some people from your neighborhood or work over for dinner. Build some relationships.
· HAVE FUN!

Fritzler Corn Maize 2009

by Delmar Schroeder
Glen and Pam Fritzler invited all of the Journey folks for a free fun filled day at the Fritzler Corn Maize. Originally, Journey Day at Fritzler's was scheduled for September 12, but we got rained out, it was then scheduled for the following Saturday or for whenever people could come.

It was an exciting day, perfect weather, and plenty of fun things to do. There is the Maise, The Creature, The Pumpkin Patch, Rollercoaster/Train, Corn Cannon, Jumping Pillow, Pedal Go-carts, the 3D-Maze, plus much more and plenty to eat. There are lots of stories floating around about people getting lost in the maize.

Thank you, Glen and Pam, for making this possible, it is was a huge gift to Journey.

Welcome the Terry Davis Family

The Journey Christian Church family continues to grow with the addition of a new family ministry leader Terry Davis. He and his wife Tammy were welcomed with a pounding. Not as physically intimidating as it sounds; a pounding is an opportunity for church members to meet the new family and send them off with a pound of goods for their pantry.

Check out Terry's bio on the About Us page to learn more about the man and his family.

Maximum Magnet Connection

by Delmar and Barb Schroeder

Here is the picture of our sticker on the back of our Nissan Maxima.

This our story:

We were in a local drug store to pick up our medications and got into a conversation with the pharmacist. When the conversation turned to church and Journey, she said, "Oh, you are the guy's with all those 'Enjoy' bumper stickers, I will have to check it out."

Another time, I had the car washed at the Car Spa car wash, they have an attendant that does some manual prep work with a strong soapy spray. I had forgotten about the sticker, when we came out the other end of the car wash the attendant brought us the sticker and said, "Interesting sticker". He probably checked it out on the web.

Some Like It Hot

Over a dozen mouth watering green, red and white chills were served to a crowed of hungry families and enthusiastic judges at the 2009 chili cook-off. There was also a cinnamon roll competition that featured a variety of unique tastes. This annual event is hosted by Journey’s own Hospitality Ministry.
